Lincoln Law School’s J.D Degree Program

What is a J.D. degree?

The Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree is commonly bestowed upon law graduates in the United States. If you’re contemplating a career as a lawyer, pursuing a J.D. is a pivotal initial step. This degree not only imparts essential legal knowledge but also serves as comprehensive preparation for the rigorous bar exam, a requisite milestone on the path to becoming a licensed attorney.

How is the J.D. program structured?

The curriculum at Lincoln Law School is designed to offer students a strong foundation in a variety of legal principles. The first two years of study prepare students for more advanced law classes, while developing their skills in communication, organization, and articulation. Courses in the third and fourth years continue to develop and refine students’ expertise in interpreting and applying legal theories. For more information, visit our Academics page.

What is required to earn a J.D. degree?

Students are eligible for the degree of Juris Doctor (J.D.) when they have completed the following:

  1. A minimum of 86 semester units in accordance with the Law School’s prescribed curriculum;
  2. A grade point average of 2.1 or better during their final academic year and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.1 or better; and
  3. A petition for graduation in their final semester. Petitions, available at the Administration Office, will be evaluated by the administration to verify that all requirements have been met by the student.

Please Note: Any student who takes the California Bar Examination before graduating from the Law School will not receive a degree. Study at, or graduation from, this law school may not qualify a student to take the bar examination or be admitted to practice law in jurisdictions other than California.

How long does a J.D. degree take?

Lincoln Law School’s J.D. program takes four years to complete. — Students are typically required to take a minimum of 9 units in both Fall and Spring semesters and typically take 2-4 units in Summer semesters. A total of 86 units are required for graduation, including 74 units of required courses and 12 units of elective courses.
